Meet Kay Phoenix | Little Lifts Breast Cancer Charity Team

We are celebrating each member of our wonderful, small but mighty team. This month, we interviewed our Finance and Business Support Manager, Kay.

The team at Little Lifts HQ work hard behind the scenes to ensure that we are able to continue sending out Little Lifts Boxes to spread kindness to those affected by breast cancer. This month we’re shining the spotlight on Kay, our Finance and Business Support Manager. Kay has been part of the Little Lifts team since the very beginning. We sat down with Kay to find out more about her role at Little Lifts.

What’s your favourite way to start the workday?

“My daughter has slept through the night, a relaxed wake-up with my partner, lovely cuddles with my daughter on the sofa, an easy drive to drop her off at nursery and getting to the office in time for a coffee and catch-up with the team before starting work.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

“This is Little Lifts, so no two days are ever the same! But most days start with checking and responding to emails across the several inboxes I’m responsible for, followed by reconciling income and expenditure with the bank, paying some supplier invoices, reviewing our policies, making sure the printer is working correctly (!), writing some grant applications and reports, reviewing copy and, at the moment, doing some AAT accountancy training revision!”

What do you love the most about your role?

“How varied it is. As part of the finance side of my role, I’m involved in all aspects of the charity, which is really interesting. Having been with Little Lifts from the start, it’s also great to see how my role and the charity have developed and changed. It’s like no other role I’ve had!”

What's one work task you secretly enjoy more than you should?

“Reviewing our income and expenditure against the budget. I find it really satisfying to see when we have raised more than expected, or spent less than planned, but still supported as many (or more!) people as expected, as it means we can support even more people affected by breast cancer!”

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at work?

“When it comes to fundraising, it’s always worth asking. The worst someone can say is no!”

What three words would your team use to describe you?

“Meticulous, SBEB, bakery-obsessed”

What does Little Lifts mean to you?

“Family, kindness, community, making a difference.”

A huge thank you to Kay for being such a massive part of the Little Lifts journey since day one. Look out for a spotlight post each month to learn more about our small but mighty team!
