Celebrating Volunteers Week at Little Lifts

We are celebrating Volunteers' Week here at Little Lifts by sharing more about how some of the brilliant volunteers who help us on our mission to support every person in the UK facing breast cancer treatment.

The beginning of June marks Volunteers’ Week! A wonderful nationwide week of appreciation for all of the incredible people who offer their time to make a real difference.

During this special week, we are giving special thanks and celebrating these superstars for their dedication, love and time spent supporting others! We couldn’t do what we do without these wonderful people.

Their belief, understanding, and kindness help provide the best possible support. From packing Boxes, prepping for Packing Parties and driving our van, to delivering talks, reviewing applications and fundraising support – they quite literally do it all! What is so special is the joy and buzz they bring to our community.

Our volunteers are at the very core of Little Lifts, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without them. 80% of our volunteers are people who have been impacted by our work, but volunteers come to work with us for so many reasons. Learn more about our volunteers Lynne, Trish, Leon and Rose below.

Meet one of our volunteering power couples, Trish and Leon

What do you do at Little Lifts?

“Trish volunteers twice a month doing Box packing and gives speeches about her experience of cancer. Leon volunteers as a driver for hospital deliveries. We also both help with events such as awareness stands.”

What is your favourite thing about volunteering at Little Lifts?

“Trish’s favourite thing about volunteering at Little Lifts is thinking about other cancer patients, knowing how they benefit from the love and thoughtfulness of Little Lifts. Leon’s is meeting and working with staff and volunteers.”

If you had to describe Little Lifts in three words, what would they be?

“We would both describe Little Lifts as warm, kind and compassionate.”

Why do you volunteer at Little Lifts?

“Trish volunteers because, having been a recipient of a Radiotherapy Box, she knows what it feels like to be thought of in such a loving way at such a sad and low point in her life. Leon volunteers to continue supporting Trish and being involved with such lovely people.”

Meet volunteer Rose

What do you do at Little Lifts?

“Anything that they ask me to do. So making Boxes, packing Boxes, tying cutlery together (everybody’s favourite!), putting stickers on Boxes, taping… just what’s needed on the day.”

What is your favourite thing about volunteering at Little Lifts?

“My favourite thing about coming here is all the fabulous people that you meet and it’s for you and all the volunteers – we do something worthwhile while we’re here. Plus a lot of chin wagging!”

If you had to describe Little Lifts in three words, what would they be?

“Fabulous forever friends.”

Why do you volunteer at Little Lifts?

“Why wouldn’t you? It’s just great. No, seriously, a friend of mine asked me to write her a reference for volunteering, and that’s how I found out about Little Lifts. At the bottom of her form, I put me too – I’ve never looked back!”
