“The Ovarian Cancer Support group was founded by Siobhan Falco, a Gynaecology nurse specialist at NNUH in Norwich, in March 2024. She could see that there was a real need for her patients to share their experiences and find strength together.
We have monthly meetings which are held at the Big C at the NNUH on the second Friday of every month 11 am to 1 pm.
We are entirely volunteer run and offer a very warm, welcoming and safe space.
We do fundraise in a variety of ways, and with these funds, we make up packs for ladies who have been newly diagnosed or who have a recurrence; each pack contains thoughtful, useful items which were suggested by members of our group.
These packs are given out by Siobhan in her clinics.
Wherever possible, we give out posters to local doctor surgeries, hairdressers, shops etc. in order to raise awareness of Ovarian cancer and the early signs and symptoms to look for.”
“The group meet once a month where we enjoy a hot drink and often delicious homemade cakes and biscuits. This time gives us all a chance to chat and support to each other.
Sometimes we have interesting talks: Oncology Consultants, a Big C dietician, Ovacome charity, local MPs and Karen Vincent chief executive of the Big C.
We have also held a couple of therapeutic Doodle Workshops and have a very active WhatsApp group. We held last month a Macmillan Wellbeing & Celebration day for our ladies in a hotel, an uplifting and positive day.
Plus our fundraising bake sales for those that want to get involved.”
