We welcomed sixteen wonderful women from Norfolk and Suffolk for a special experience at Synfry Barns that Debbie, a beneficiary, described as ‘a fully exclusive safe space to be yourself’. The Retreat was hosted by the Freedom Wellbeing Project and SunFyr Barns, who provided yoga, wellness, and relaxation sessions, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Community Fund, as well as support from The Cancer Community Chest, who have contributed funding towards our Little Lifts Community events for 2026.

Over three days, the participants practised restorative yoga, learning to relax their bodies and minds, and participated in two art sessions: one in which they created mandala patterns and one in which they explored watercolours, allowing a relaxed space for the group to talk as they got creative. We were also joined by the wonderful Jenny Knight, who led a creative writing workshop exploring the art of free-flow writing as a form of meditation and mindfulness. Between activities, the participants enjoyed nourishing, delicious and healthy lunches, and hot drinks flowed throughout the days.

Hosting a retreat is a special event, as it provides the space and time for our beneficiaries to come together. Lindsay, one of the women present at the Retreat, said, “I felt like I was wrapped in a supportive and caring blanket of warmth. The staff and premises were amazing, the content was so inspiring, and the sense of connection and companionship was perfect. I needed this more than I knew”.

The connection and sharing of experiences of breast cancer is invaluable for our beneficiaries, and the Retreat was a wonderfully restorative experience for all involved. We feel incredibly privileged to be able to provide support to people affected by breast cancer, not only through our gift Boxes but also through our Community Clubs and Retreats. It allows us to host remarkable people for well-deserved breaks and special experiences, and to enable them to build community and friendships.

At Little Lifts, we aim to provide a community for people who have had a breast cancer diagnosis to connect, share, experience and find ways of managing the emotional impact of cancer. Events like our Retreat are an inspiring opportunity to see the impact of our work and meet the people behind our Boxes.

We would not be able to offer these wonderful experiences for people affected by breast cancer without the invaluable support of our incredible community, whose kindness helps to continue growing our offerings as a small charity. A huge thank you to everyone who helps make this possible.
