Saying farewell to part of our small but mighty charity team

Today, we say farewell to Anya! After nearly four years as our Brand, Marketing and Community Executive, she is off on an exciting next chapter.

During Anya’s time with us, she has been pivotal to how we communicate and celebrate with our community; setting up effective and efficient processes that support the wider team, showcasing Little Lifts life with her content creation, championing our beneficiaries, community fundraisers, volunteers and staff, and designing our very own cards, tea towels, and ‘boob wall’ thanks to her brilliant creativity! Anya’s varied and dynamic role has seen her public speaking, working closely with volunteers, jumping from a plane, cold-water dipping in January, and winning at crazy golf at one Christmas party. Anya has offered creative flair, enthusiasm, and a deep care for the work of Little Lifts. We will miss her! We ask Anya some questions about her time at Little Lifts:

What have you loved the most about working at Little Lifts?

“The community! There really is no other answer to this. The Little Lifts Community is so special, and I have absolutely loved supporting its growth and capturing its essence through marketing. I have been so lucky to meet and work with such amazing, inspiring and caring people.

Also, working in a role where I am creative, around people who are driven and constantly pushing what I thought I could do. When I applied for my role, I never thought I would be public speaking at a Fashion Show in front of several hundred people, organising a virtual steps campaign, painting a boob mural or getting on stage to film a Fitness Festival. Thank you for believing in me!”

What is your most memorable moment?

“It’s so difficult to pick just one memorable moment… There have been SO many from cheering on our Trail Runners and jumping out of a plane to filming Oa and Shopie in a field of goats and supporting students as they hosted an art exhibition amplifying the voices of people affected by breast cancer.

But one memory that stands out to me as capturing the essence of Little Lifts was watching Emma take to the runway at our Fashion Show.

Emma, our incredible beneficiary, initially reached out to us with a lovely message and attached a photo of her and her Box (and a little alien on her shoulder). I knew from that first message she would be involved later down the line. Fast forward, and Emma had commented on a post about our upcoming Fashion Show, asking, “Will anyone modelling be flat?”

We immediately reached out and invited her to participate. Emma, who had a double mastectomy, responded with heartfelt enthusiasm, saying it was “an honour to represent us ‘flatties’.”

At the show, as she reached the end of the runway, she removed her blazer and turned around to a room full of love. Just moments earlier, she had shared her story and her desire to represent a body type that is often overlooked. That night, it was celebrated. We stood, we cheered, we cried. As she walked back towards the crowd, everyone took to their feet, and, quite honestly, I cannot describe just how special the feeling in the room was.

That moment, I feel, embodies our very special community and the power of kindness. I was so proud to capture it and an interview with Emma, which you can see here

I have also had the absolute privilege of working with Emma weekly as she became a volunteer, helping steward our community fundraisers and getting involved in SO much more, including speaking at our Ball, modelling in our Bakes for Kindness campaign, sharing her tips, and bringing her brilliant sense of humour to HQ. She was even kind enough to make me my dream Disney dress, which I not only wore to our Little Lifts Ball, but also made a trip to Florida!”

What have you learned about yourself over the last (nearly) four years?

“This is a difficult one, I was just 23 when I joined the Little Lifts team for my first office job. I was welcomed with open arms, support and enthusiasm, and the team has seen me grow from being fresh out of university, to moving out to my first home, and now taking my exciting next steps. So, in all honesty, I have learnt a lot!

Something that has been celebrated is my ability to accept feedback; in fact, I love it. I am always striving to develop and thrive in environments with new challenges.

I have done A LOT of things I never thought I would do. Public speaking was a huge point of anxiety for me. Now, not only can I present talks, but I enjoy them and leave with a buzz! I raised nearly £2,000 by taking on a running challenge during BCAM, cold-water swimming for the Big Dip, abseiling the forum, doing a firewalk, and, the biggest of all, jumping out of a plane. Turns out I will quite literally do anything for something I believe passionately in… and I can do what I put my mind to.”

What three things will you take away from your time at Little Lifts?

“Three things I will take away are:

  • To always lead with kindness, openness and absolute care. Working in this sector is a privilege, as every single day I have been lucky enough to witness acts of kindness, and they really do go a long way!
  • To make the most of every moment. Life can throw the unexpected at you, and you cannot plan for what might happen. So live in the moment, savour every minute and seek joy.
  • My talent for drawing boobs can be transferred into a professional setting.”

“Thank you for this special chapter of my life! I am excited for what’s to come, but will continue cheering from the sidelines alongside the most amazing community!”
