Little Lifts Skydive Fundraising Challenge with UK Parachuting

Taking on the challenge for our breast cancer charity

On Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July, this incredible group took to the skies to help support people affected by breast cancer.

Nine members of our amazing Little Lifts community signed up for this unforgettable challenge and, whether you call them brave or a little bit crazy, together they raised more than £5,000 for Little Lifts!

Saturday's skydive: the first jumpers take flight

Despite a cloudy (and very early!) start, the first three skydivers (Emily, Charlene and Hannah) were quickly harnessed up and able to take to the skies by mid-morning on Saturday. They all seemed remarkably calm beforehand, and their smiles afterwards said everything about how much they had enjoyed the experience. Watching them descend from the skies was an incredible sight, and it wasn’t long before the crowd of supporters erupted into cheers!

While there was plenty of waiting around, it gave everyone a fantastic opportunity to get to know each other, chat about their reasons for taking on the challenge for Little Lifts and, of course, take lots of photos.

Sunday brings better conditions for the remaining jumpers

Then, as only the British weather can, things took a turn. Thick cloud cover for the rest of Saturday meant the remaining six jumpers had to postpone their dives until the following day. Thankfully, Sunday brought much better conditions. With no false starts, all six remaining fundraisers were finally able to take the leap.

Why our fundraisers jumped for Little Lifts

Some of our incredible fundraisers shared why they decided to jump out of a plane for our breast cancer charity:

Michael, one of our amazing volunteers, jumped on the Sunday, and said:

“I like to set myself challenges and a skydive was a bucket list item for me….but I’m incredibly conscious that jumping out of a plane was nothing compared to the courage shown every day by those living with breast cancer. I’m incredibly proud to have completed my skydive for Little Lifts and to have helped raise funds for a charity that brings comfort and kindness when it’s needed most. Thank you to everyone who donated and cheered me on!”

Charlene, who jumped on the Saturday, said:

“I received a Little Lifts Box just before my radiotherapy treatment started, and it came at the right time to make me smile when everything else was getting on top of me. What a wonderful, heartfelt gift to receive, and this is why I chose this fabulous charity to do my skydive for! I wanted to give something back to Little Lifts, who showed me love and kindness when I needed it the most.”

Thank you to UK Parachuting

We would like to say a huge thank you to the fantastic team at UK Parachuting for helping the event run so smoothly, even when Saturday’s weather meant only three of our skydivers were able to jump.

A huge thank you to our fundraisers

Finally, a massive THANK YOU to every one of our incredible fundraisers – Kerry, Charlene, Emily, Hannah, Oliver, Natalia, Michael, Ruth and Nick. You are all amazing!

Every participant had their own reason for taking on this challenge. Some had received a Box themselves, others were jumping for a family member, friend or colleague, some are valued members of our community, and some simply wanted to tick an adrenaline-fuelled challenge off their bucket list.

Whatever their motivation, each person helped spread kindness, raise awareness of breast cancer, and generate vital funds for our small (but mighty!) charity. We couldn’t be more grateful.
