In 2024, three friends were each separately diagnosed with different types and stages of breast cancer. Katie underwent a lumpectomy, 6 weeks of chemotherapy, and 15 sessions of radiotherapy, whilst Jess and Jo Jo both underwent lumpectomies and radiotherapy. Read more about Katie’s experience and hair loss here. Each was treated at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and each had the same consultant, and what’s more, they all received a Little Lifts Box during their diagnosis and treatment.

‘Receiving a Little Lifts Box felt very special. It wasn’t just about what was inside, it was about the feeling of being thought about and supported at a time when everything can feel quite isolating. It’s those small, thoughtful touches that make such a difference. It reminded us how powerful kindness and community can be, and it’s something that has really stayed with us in how we approach The Bald Box.’

‘The Bald Box is designed to support women at the start of their hair loss journey. It brings together practical, thoughtfully chosen items to help take away some of the uncertainty and give a sense of control during what can feel like an overwhelming time.
Our aim is to make those first steps easier. We offer women a way to explore options privately, in their own time, without pressure. It’s about helping them feel more like themselves again and more confident stepping back into everyday life.’

‘During chemotherapy, Katie experienced first-hand just how daunting the prospect of losing your hair can feel. She found it hard to access simple, manageable information in those early days.
We wanted to create something we wish had existed at that time: a starting point that feels supportive, not overwhelming. Something that says, “you’re not alone in this,” and gives women a bit more confidence as they navigate what’s ahead. We also wanted to offer a way for women to explore wigs and other options without feeling they needed to spend a lot to get started.’

“The Original” Bald Box was carefully put together to include practical essentials alongside a few self-care touches. The original Bald Box includes items like:
Alongside the core box, you can find an array of wig choices, from caps with hair (£25) for ease, a range of wigs (£60) to a bespoke wig service for a more tailored option. You can also find an array of turbans, scalp care and smaller boxes. Their prices and helpful advice, informed by experience make their solutions affordable and accessible.

Jess, Jo Jo, and Katie want to impress upon everyone that ‘there is no “right” way to handle hair loss’ and that you need to do what is best for you. They say:
To see Katie, Jess, and Jo Jo’s practical tips and tricks to dealing with the physical changes that come with cancer treatment, take a look at their Top Tips page on their website. This provides support for hair loss, wig care and the emotions that might come with treatment. The team are also always happy to help with specific questions and if they don’t know the answer, they can help to point you in the right direction.
‘What we hear time and time again is how much it means to feel understood. Women often tell us that The Bald Box makes them feel less alone and more prepared for what’s ahead.
It’s not just about the products. It’s about the reassurance and confidence it brings during a really vulnerable time.’

‘It’s hard to choose just one highlight, as so much has happened since we began; from being interviewed on Anglia Tonight, to an event at John Lewis, and working with incredible women such as Laura Middleton Hughes, who kindly gave her time to model for us.
But one of the most meaningful highlights has been hearing directly from women who feel more confident, or more like themselves again. Those moments, when someone tells us they felt able to leave the house, go for a walk, or see friends again – mean everything. That’s exactly why we started.’

‘At the heart of everything we do is a desire to make this experience just a little bit easier for other women.
As a Community Interest Company, everything we do is focused on community benefit, with any surplus reinvested to further support women experiencing hair loss.
Collaborating with organisations like Little Lifts feels incredibly important to us, as we share the same belief in the power of small, thoughtful support during some of life’s toughest moments.’
We were thrilled to learn about the wonderful work of The Bald Box, helping to support people in the cancer community. We cannot wait to see what is next for them (and cheer them on down the runway at our upcoming Fashion Show!). Thank you for spreading kindness!
