Ultra Lifters

Five friends, and work colleagues, with a mutual interest in fitness have decided to take on a series of endurance events - pushing their bodies and minds to the extreme. Why? To get men talking and thinking about their mental health whilst also raising funds for Little Lifts after seeing first-hand the impact a Little Lifts Box had a on a loved one during chemotherapy treatment.

So…who are the Ultra Lifters?  Joe, Cam and Jacob, all work for JCB Power Systems in Foston, (Derbyshire) are joined by friends Phil, Connor and more recently Steve who decided to join in after he heard Joe talking about the challenge at a JCB work brief. This enthusiastic bunch are currently training tirelessly and passionately raising funds and awareness – all whilst working and taking care of family life.

Their journey...

  • Over £7,500 has been raised – they have quite literally smashed their fundraising target!
  • Their fundraising efforts have made the local news.
  • Steve has completed his first challenge – running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. Wowza!
  • Despite injuries, busy lives and the weather (remember all the wind and rain?!) the Team of Ultra Lifters completed the Leicestershire Half Marathon – all of their amazing training and fundraising efforts have been kindly self-funded. Total heroes!
  • On Saturday 26th March the Ultra Lifters climbed Mount Snowdon with the equivalent weight of a JCB engine, that’s 400kg – they did this by adding sandbags to their rucksacks.
  • Then on 28th May the Ultra Lifters headed to Bamburgh Castle to run 100km without stopping.

Inspired? We are!

We asked Joe why his team of Ultra Lifters are going above and beyond with their fundraising efforts:

“Our goal in supporting mental health and well-being is to promote the Ask Twice message about showing care for your mate’s state of mind, and to generally get men talking and listening to each other more. As part of my own mentoring role, I am keen to spread this message among my colleagues and friends.  We are also hoping to use our endurance events to raise money for a great charity that is close to home and has touched our hearts.”
