Glynn is the middle of 3 generations of NHS employees, his mum started training as a nurse in the infancy of the NHS as well as his dad shortly after. Glynn trained as a radiographer in the early 90’s and his daughter is a student nurse. ‘I think that makes the NHS our family business!’
‘As my friends and colleagues know I am a massive fan of Lego (building Lego is my Zen). I love the fresh air, green spaces and walks with the dog (and family).’
The impact you see of the Little Lifts Boxes?
At the start of treatment breast cancer patients often feel very nervous and afraid of the unknown, receiving a Little Lifts Box at this point has a very positive impact. It can reduce the feeling of fear and isolation that is often experienced.
What is it like giving them out?
Although I’ve been involved with Little Lifts since planning the first Radiotherapy Box, I don’t ever get to give them out. I do often pass by when a patient has just been given the Box and their reaction is amazing. I could not count how many times I’ve heard the comment that it’s like receiving a hug (in a Box) at just the right moment!
Comments on the contents of the Box, in relation to physical and emotional side effects.
Just brilliant, really what can you say. There has been so much thought put into packing those little boxes to the brim with care and love!
Any top tips you would share with patients for their treatment?
Skin care is so important, especially moisturising. The earlier you can start moisturising the treatment area the better. Get into the habit before the first treatment. Do a test patch on your wrist to check you are not allergic to any new moisturiser, then use over the area to be treated at least twice a day.
