Emily’s Story

Say hello to lovely Emily who received a Chemotherapy Box via our Little Kindness Fund in July 2023.

Originally, she was diagnosed with high grade DCIS, however after having a mastectomy they discovered invasive cancer HER2+. Emily began weekly chemotherapy for 12 weeks and targeted therapy injections for 6 months at York Hospital.

Emily works for Oncology and Haematology at York NHS part time. She has a lovely husband and two amazing teenage children. She loves the gym, keeping fit and active, which she is really missing. She also enjoys walking her dog and getting out into the fresh air. As well as, cooking, eating out and travel, which is important to her.
Emily told us about receiving her Little Lifts Box and how she felt: ‘Amazing!! Quite overwhelmed if I’m honest about how kind the charity is.

I loved everything, what a thoughtful idea for people going through a challenging time… In my chemo session today I took the sherbet lemons, they were gorgeous, offered them to others patients too!!

I think this is an amazing idea, I would never normally apply for anything but I have read helpful tips on your website and really taken on board some of the advice. I have been on a terrible roller coaster like so many cancer patients but reading other stories, getting advice etc. has really helped me. Thank you, the Box was an added bonus you should all be very proud of what you are doing xx’

Emily’s top tip: ‘Try to take each day as it comes, enjoy the good days and get plenty of rest.’
