Katie’s Story

Here is the lovely Katie who shared an amazing video of her Little Lifts Chemotherapy Box after receiving it in January through our Little Kindness Fund.

Katie is being treated for primary breast cancer at the Royal Derby hospital, she received her Box through our Little Kindness Fund. She has invasive ductal carcinoma, she is receiving chemotherapy followed by surgery which will be dependent on her genetic testing results. The cancer is considered curable.

Katie works in the NHS as an operational coordinator which involves planning clinics and theatres, organising doctors etc. She is a single mum to her daughter who is five. She loves Chinese food as well as socialising, going for dog walks and to the gym.

When Katie received her Chemotherapy Box she said:

‘It was very exciting to receive and did certainly give me a “lift”. I love all of the products. In particular, the cordial as I get really bored of water. I love the lolly recipes as I suck lollies during treatment and I need something new. The sleep pillow mist and pulse point are great as I struggle with sleeping. The lip balm is also amazing.’

She also recorded an amazing informative video which you can watch here: Tik Tok Video

Katie’s Top Tips are:

  • If you are using a cold cap use a fabric hairband to protect your forehead. It makes the cold a bit more bearable.
  • Don’t take your favourite foods. It may seem like a good idea but you can soon associate these with chemo and it really puts you off them.
  • Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water before, during and after chemo. It really helps flush your system and also helps when fitting a cannula.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us Katie.
